Ok, it doesn't take much to make me think of Duran Duran but some of their first photo shoots had the band members wearing these black and white (or blue and white?) shirts.
Hawt.
My outfit isn't even close to the same but any excuse to mention my favourite band.
Blouse: Vero Moda
Pants: Banana Republic via Crimson and Clover
Shoes: Melissa (last worn here)
I love these shoes and I only almost fell over in them once. Luckily my coworker was beside me to help break my fall.
This week has been very long, and very busy so I was happy to go out tonight with my girlfriends and have a few laughs. This might have been part of our conversation:
Friend A: Hey! Another BeeGee died!
Friend S: Yes, Robin
A: No, Maurice
S: No, he was already dead
A: Only Barry is left
Me: And Andy died in the 1980s.
....
Me: Andy Gibb had a very hairy chest.
A: So did Barry but you'd expect that because he had that big beard.
S: Because only bearded men have hairy bodies?
Me: Yes, no men with beards are naked.
S: Hairless?
Me: Yes, that's the word, not naked.
Here you can see that the pants are striped and you can see the orange stripe on the back of the heels.
We went out for Chinese food and this was my fortune. Hopefully it will be Tyrion Lannister.
Tomorrow I'm not in the office - I'm out at training. Hopefully I'll find a place to take a photo.

Red carpet massacre, Don't want to hassle you
I was totally out of it today. I ended up missing my bus home and when I did get on the bus I missed my stop and had to walk home four extra blocks. Now my husband and I are doing the "what do you want for dinner" dance that ultimately results in us ordering pizza. (yep, just ordered it.)
Blouse: Club Monaco
Dress: Pretty Things Boutique
Shoes: Tn_29 - gravitypope.com
The weather is still really cool here so I've solidly returned to tights. Red tights though which make me happy.
I was walking through my office building's lobby today and some woman gave me the stink eye like you wouldn't believe. Weird! Maybe she doesn't like red?
And since it's after the 24th of May, white shoes! Not that I subscribe to all of those fashion "rules".
Speaking of fashion rules, I've been reading some of those websites that like to tell women over 40 what they should and shouldn't wear. Here is one of the gems of wisdom:
Avoid wearing outfits that are too colorful because at a certain age wearing too many bold colors simply won't do. It will make you look like you are trying to look young and you will only get the opposite effect.
Guess I failed that tip, eh?

Love me, Trapper Jane
I gots me another new dress.
Sweater: Club Monaco
Dress: Trapper Jane from Love, Me Boutique
Shoes: Fluevog Presence Hi | Desmond
It has pockets...
And is twirly and tartany.
What more can a girl want?
It was a cold day today. Only 8C so out came the tights and a sweater. I probably would have been comfortable in a wool dress.
I hope we get some more warm weather soon.

' ' ' punctuation dress ' ' '
I can be a bit of a stickler for grammar and punctuation so the quirkiness of this dress.
Dress: Makenew from Love, Me Boutique
Belt: Smoking Lily Obi Belt (not silk, just cotton)
Shoes: Calvin Klein
I went to Love, Me Boutique on Saturday because I saw that they had some new Trapper Jane clothing in stock but of course I looked around at everything in the store. If you're in Halifax you have to visit this store.
Makenew takes clothing and redesigns it to revitalize it and give it new life. For this dress that meant putting gold and silver screen-printed commas or apostrophes all over it. Probably a very time consuming prospect yet this dress cost less than $40.00.
See! All the world's missing commas and apostrophes in one place!
Speaking of $40.00, I saw these Calvin Klein shoes at Crimson and Clover. Obviously never worn. I thought they'd be a nice pair of basic black maryjane heels.
Wearing this today made me feel very thrifty.
But I have to stop spending money. Must. Stop. Spending. Money.

More pink
I found some more pink in my wardrobe. This sweater is actually a new acquisition from ModCloth. I saw it on the ModCloth site the day after Jetta passed away and I thought it was so cute that I had to buy it. It is a little precious but I don't care so much.
Sweater: ModCloth Hugs to Go Cardigan
Dress: Smoking Lily from Elsie's
Tights: We Love Colors
Shoes: Urban Outfitters (you can't really see them but they're pretty plain as seen here)
It's like a big grey kitty giving you a hug.
It even wraps around the back which is all kinds of adorkable.
This is another Smoking Lily dress thrifted from Elsie's. It's just a plain black cotton shift dress with some shaping at the waist and your basic run of the mill screen-printed bugs.
Cats love bugs, after all.
Hope everyone had a good weekend.

Diagonal stripes
I'm so happy to see the arse end of today. It started with receiving a text message from my coworker which read "Turn around and go home..." and ended with my dinner plans being thwarted by a dead battery in my car. The middle was filled with meetings, conference calls, and my performance appraisal.
Some good things were having good, reliable staff that you can count on to attend meetings when you can't, and to commiserate with over drinks after work; having CAA to give my car a boost; and having patient friends. Oh, and kitties to come home too.
I was so busy today that I forgot to take my photo at work! I took this quick one on my deck when I got home prior to attempting to start my car.
Sweater: Pretty Things Boutique
Cami: Joe Fresh
Dress: thrifted - Formerly Yours Boutique
Shoes: Desigual (last worn here)
I bought this dress last year around July 1st, so I call it my Canada day dress. It was hanging in the window of the store and they almost refused to take it down since the owner doesn't like to disturb her window displays. I was very convincing though.
I wore it once and realized rather quickly that I needed to wear something underneath it to give more coverage on the top. By the time I bought this tank top it was too cold to really wear this much. I was glad to wear it today because it made me feel confident and happy while going through the wringer.
And this cardigan is the absolutely perfect colour of red. Not too orange and not too pink. Thanks again Pretty Things!
So glad to see Friday tomorrow!

To color fear and loathing with that pink disguise
Today's outfit was happy making. How could I not be happy wearing all this colour?
Dress: Anthropologie in Charlotte NC
Belt: H&M
Skirt: ModCloth
Shoes: Town Shoes
Pink is my least favourite colour. I only own about 3 pink things - this dress, a skirt, and the coat you are about to see.
Since I'm not really a fan of pink, you may wonder why I bought this dress. I liked the design, I liked the pockets and I liked the plaid. All that overrode the colour.
The belt loops on the dress, however, are up at my rib cage since my torso is freakishly long. Adding this belt, rather than the fabric tie belt that came with the dress was more comfortable because I could buckle it loosely without it sagging and looking weird.
I bought these shoes on Saturday at THE MALL. I live about 3 blocks from the largest mall in the city yet I hardly ever go there - because it can be dangerous. On Saturday I wanted to go for a walk so I walked to the mall, around the mall, and home again.
I've been looking for orange shoes for a while and these fit the bill. They cost more than I originally wanted to spend but I think it was worth it.
Today I wore this coat which I received as a birthday gift. It's Isaac Mizrahi for Target which wasn't available in Canada since we don't have Target in Canada yet, so I'm guessing the gift giver found this at a consignment/thrift store. Not a big deal since I shop at them all the time. It's PINK...like electric pink so it's something I would probably have passed over without a second glance but wearing it felt good. It felt springy and it felt cheerful.
I'm still not a fan of pink though. Small doses....

Lost hearts and words that are spoken to the wind which blows before the rain
After three days of sunshine and mild temperatures, today was all about the rain and humidity, as evident in my hair.
Flippy and fuzzy. Time to get the flatiron out again I guess.
I never know what to wear on rainy days so I just grabbed some comfortable pants.
Blouse: Vero Moda from Envy (local store)
Cami: from Envy
Pants: Lilith
Shoes: Miz Mooz
On Saturday, I walked to the mall which is way to close to my house for comfort. I went in search of blouses and forced myself to not look at dresses or skirts or pants. This is one of them. It was on sale and I liked the colour and it looked ok on but when I wore it today, it drove me crazy.
Or maybe I should say "batty"?
I kept getting the sleeves caught in the arms of my chair and I couldn't shake the feeling that the top kept sliding forward.
I also felt a little too casual.
Here's hoping I can do better tomorrow.

Victoria Day shenanigans
Today is Victoria day in Canada so I had the day off of work. The weather has been gorgeous here this weekend and today was no exception.
To celebrate we went downtown to Bistro Le Coq for lunch.
Dress: Modcloth
Shoes: Fluevog Faiths Low | Reumah
Drink: French Martini
Since I was wearing this dress I thought it was only appropriate to have a cocktail. Tell me I'm wrong, I dare you!
These are my birthday/Fluevog Day shoes. I love the colourful wood on the heels. I really need a pedicure.
After lunch we went to the Museum of Natural History to see the exhibit of superhero and sci-fi costumes.
Out of this world...and this is the only Canadian exhibit!
There were other costumes too like of Obi Wan Kenobi, Seven of Nine, T-Pal, and the Wicked Witch of the West's hat. A sci-fi/fantasy nerd's delight! Highly recommended.

Vest and Sash worn by Captain Kirk |
George Clooney's Batman costume |
Darth Vader! |
Indiana Jones and the Holy Grail |
Captain Picard's jumpsuit. It's actually dark purple in colour, not red. |
The Riddler. Very cool Creepers. |
Luke Skywalker's light saber and his hand |

No power suits here
I had my job interview today and since I don't own a "power suit" I had to make something up. That's more fun anyway!
Pin: "Tea. Earl Grey. Hot."
Sweater: Smart Set
Dress: Tristan in NYC
Shoes: Poetic License from ModCloth
These shoes make me happy so I thought they would help with my confidence. And a basic shirt dress is classic and not too flashy.
This sweater is on its last legs. It's stretched out and pilly and probably not worth donating so I'm going to pitch it out soon or relegate it to weekend wear.
I had to wear the sweater to cover up the scandalous tattoos. The HORROR!
My interview wasn't great but it was my first one in 7 years so I'm not stressing about it too much. I'd be sad to leave my current job since I like the work I do and the people I work with but it would be nice to have a change as well. So I'm being a little laissez-faire about the whole thing.
At the end I did decide to throw in that "I have a wonderful sense of style" as a reason for why they should hire me. Think it will work? It would take a miracle.
The back of this dress is pretty interesting so it try to not keep it covered up all the time.
So glad that it's Friday! Happy Weekend!

Oh oh Sheila, let me love you til the morning comes
More Smoking Lily today, courtesy of my West Coast fashion blogger twin Sheila!
Sweater: Pretty Things Boutique
T-shirt: Joe Fresh
Belt: Smoking Lily (from Sheila)
Skirt: Smoking Lily (worn by Sheila here)
Shoes: Fluevog Wonders | Ayers
Sheila wasn't going to keep this skirt so she offered it to me and I was more than happy to take it off her hands.
It's Smoking Lily, it's red, it has pockets so it's right up my alley.
She threw in this belt too. My belt is a Moose! So your argument is invalid!
Really, how Canadian is this belt?
Same outfit, sans cardigan.
Tomorrow I have a job interview. My coworker asked me if I was going to wear a black, pinstriped power suit. After I stopped laughing I said "No". I don't own such a thing and even if I did I couldn't wear something like that. It would make me very uncomfortable - just not me.
Funky pattern on the skirt. Kind looks like someone's cheat sheet for a final exam.
This is a long weekend in Canada since we celebrate Victoria Day on Monday. I found this explanation on the interwebz:

Victoria Day is a Canadian statutory holiday celebrated on the Monday preceding May 25. It honours Queen Victoria's birthday.
Victoria Day is also commonly called the May 2-4 weekend (as in May 24th) and it marks the unofficial start of the cottage season where cases of beer (as in 2-4 cases) are consumed by hard working Canadians.
Happy May 2-4!

Kissy, kissy!
I wore the same skirt today that I wore last night, that I got for my birthday yesterday.
Cardigan: Danier via Value Village
T-shirt: Smoking Lily Hama Hama top
Skirt: Smoking Lily Lilibet skirt
Shoes: Fluevog Prepares | Guide
Today was a Smoking Lily day. Top, skirt, coat and scarf. Fun stuff!
Hey! There was another "under the desk" photo taken by Beth! That's 5! (Me, Sheila, Megan Mae, Izzywizz and Beth!)
Here's the back where you can see the screen print flies a little better.
I don't really have much to share today. Yesterday was such a great day so today was pretty quiet in comparison. So here are 7 random facts about me.
1. When I was a teenager I won a trophy in the sport of Curling.
2. I like reading about infections and parasites.
3. I hate cooking. HATE it.
4. My favourite fruit is raspberries.
5. I'm a fan of the Ultimate Fighting Championship and have been to 2 fight events - one in Montreal and one in Las Vegas
6. I'm allergic to all non-prescription pain killers.
7. I've had surgery 5 times - tonsils, bunion removal, two sinus surgeries, and a tubal ligation.
Fascinating isn't it?
My husband found my photos from the Mercedes-Benz event last weekend.
I don't usually wear lipstick because I tend to lick it all off rather quickly but these photos make me think I should wear it more often.
When I was in high school, I liked to wear bright red lipstick. I stopped after some girls put some quite hurtful messages in the school newspaper about me. I guess they thought I deserved it because I "stole" one of their boyfriends. Girls can be very cruel. You couldn't pay me to go back to being 18.
That's all for tonight. In the words of Miss Piggy "Kissy-kissy!"

41
Today I learned a few things:
1. There are 3 Duran Duran songs which contain the word "birthday". Rio, Come Undone, and Secret Oktober
2. Turning 41 means I've finally become senile. I forgot to wear Fluevogs on International Fluevog Day. DOH!
3. I have awesome family, friends and coworkers (though I did know that before today but it was totally reinforced).
For some dumb reason, I decided to wear my gold Noa Noa shoes to work today. Maybe I felt like a Golden Girl?
Sweater: Joe Fresh
Dress: Anthropologie
Shoes: Noa Noa via eBay
I hadn't planned on wearing this dress so I guess I confused myself and ended up grabbing a pair of non-Fluevog shoes. Silly Megan.
I do love these shoes though.
Today my friend from the bus "A" brought me a little cupcake, and at work today my coworkers gave me a necklace, a cupcake, and a wind-up squirrel.
MMmmmm...cupcake.
My sister and BIL bought me some books - the autobiography about The Bloggess and a book about couturier Elsa Schiaparelli which is very cool.
My mom bought me some things at Smoking Lily when she was there in February.
This is the Lilibet skirt with the flies on it and a scarf with octopuses on it like my octopus coat. She also got me some earrings with shoes on them. She knows me so well.
My friends bought me a gift certificate for a "soul restoring" pedicure and the Angry Birds board game. FUN!
My husband bought me a new iPad and case and his photo studio partner's son made me an Angry Birds hat.
Luckily I remembered to wear Fluevogs tonight when we went out for dinner.
Sweater: Pretty Things Boutique
Shirt: Lilith
Skirt: Smoking Lily (present from my mom)
Shoes: Fluevog Wonders | Ayers
All-in-all, a pretty awesome birthday. 41 has started off very auspiciously.
