Two for one

I didn't blog yesterday because I went out to a charity event for Dress for Success, drank a little too much and went right to bed after coming home.  I think...

Here's what I wore yesterday.

Shirt: Spaks Mannsspjarir from Reykjavik
Dress: from Crimson and Clover (last worn here)
Tights: Hue
Boots: from Las Vegas (last worn here)

The big silver necklace I got at Meow in Guelph. I found it in my desk drawer at work. I've been looking everywhere for it. I last wore it in February. Whoops.

I started the day wearing these shoes but I put my boots on because I was cold. Stupid winter. That's also why I put a sheer shirt on under this dress. Added warmth.

I don't know why I'm standing pigeon toed in this photo.

Here's what I wore today. Not very adorned or inspired. What can I say? I was hung over.

Shirt: Papillon (last worn here)
Jeans: Trapper Jane (last worn here)
(apparently I've worn this combo before)
Boots: Fluevog Rivers (last worn here)

Kinda boring. I should have worn a sweater with this because I froze all day.

I don't know what I'm looking at here. God I look tired. Maybe I should go to bed now...Zzzz.

Now that we both partake can silence kill the cat?

Recently some of my girl friends and I have been discussing what we want to do with our lives. Just because we're in our 40s doesn't mean we've got things all figured out. We keep coming back to two different plans:

  1. Sell our houses and move to London to become bloggers
  2. Sell our houses and move to Paris to ride bicycles (a velo!)
In both scenarios, we own a lot of cats. Crazy cat lady bloggers! Not likely to happen but we can dare to dream.

So in honour of our future dream, I wore my crazy cat lady dress.

Cardigan: Part Two (from local store Rennaisance)
Dress: from Mango.com (last worn in the first post of this blog)
Belt: Noujica from The Workshop in Ottawa
Shoes: Asos (last worn here)

You have to look closely to see that the motif is black cats sitting on circles.

The only way I'd like this dress more is if it had pockets. It's fully lined and is made of a nice thick fabric.  It might look nice with a crinoline underneath it since the skirt is nice and full. Twirly!

I like the slightly scooped back which give it a slightly "ballet" feel.  Reminds me of the leotards that I used to wear at ballet class.

See, CATS! CRAZY!

Itchy and Scratchy

Sorry for no post yesterday. I forgot my camera and by the time I got home it was dark. I've lived in Canada all my life yet every November people seem confused when it gets cold and when it's dark at 5pm. It really shouldn't take us by surprise but it does. Every year.

I didn't start of planning to wear this outfit. Seems like every day I say "I planned to wear something else but ended up wearing this". In hindsight this dress was a poor choice. Wooly fabric + healing tattoo = intense ITCH! It drove me mad all day.

Cardigan: Pretty Things Boutique (worn a zillion times)
Dress: Papillon (last worn here)
Shoes: Fluevog Presence | Impel (last worn here)

The bag is a gift from my coworker who just got back from a work trip to Ireland, Scotland and England. She also bought me a brooch that's a little wooly sheep. She knows me so well.

I was caught taking this photo by the cranky IT guy. No, he didn't even crack a smile.

I was looking back at previous entries and I think that my hair is starting to look really good. I think the layers have mostly grown out so it looks fuller or thicker or something. Not sure how much longer I'd like it to be. Something to ponder for the new year.

Here's another picture of the tattoo. The colour isn't very good here but it gives a better idea of the size and where it is on my body.

SO ITCHY!!

New Tattoo

Here's a picture of the tattoo that I got yesterday. It's positioned on my ribs on the right hand side of my body and is about 12 cm long.

This was taken moments after finishing so it's all red and swollen. I can't wait to see what it looks like when it's all healed. It's a purple finch and I quite like how it looks a wee bit perturbed.

The artist, Lydia (her Facebook page is here if you're a Facebook user) also posted a photo and said "3 hrs on the ribs and she didn't budge. that almost never happens!" I'm a Rock STAR!

After I got my last tattoo last summer I said "no more". I guess I lied. This one has a lot of meaning to me and I love it.

Black 'n Blue

I was in Ottawa again recently for work and I went to that store The Workshop again and bought this dress.

It came with a tie belt but I think I like it best without it.

Dress: Individual for iclothing co
Tights: Hue (last worn here)
Boots: Fluevog Fellowship | Roseabelles

I bought these boots in 2005 in Vancouver in the Fluevog Granville St store. I was a big splurge for me at the time. I don't wear them often enough. I think they were about $290 at the time. Wheee!

It's just a plain jersey fabric but the pleats on the bodice and the bell sleeves make it a little cuter.

And my watch and ring. Lots of animals on my accessories.

And tomorrow I'm getting my new tattoo of a bird - yet another animal to add to my collection. Wish me luck!

Return

Sorry about the disappearance. I was away for work and busy. I'm way behind on reading everyone's blogs too. I hope to get caught up this weekend. Might give me something to do when I'm getting my new tattoo this Saturday! WHOOO!

Lots of changes are afoot at work so I'm a little stressed. And when I'm stressed I procrastinate which makes me even more stressed. Vicious circle.

Jacket: Lilith (last worn here)
Shirt: Reitmans or Smart Set
Skants: Melow par Melissa Bolduc from the Workshop (last worn here)
Hosiery: Sock Dreams (last worn here)
Boots: Cydwoq

Lots of layers going on here.

Does spray starch still exist? I have to do something to fix this collar. I've ironed the hell out of it but it won't stay flat. Kinda drove me nuts all day.

True confessions? I couldn't wear these boots for very long. They close with elastic loops at the back and they are quite tight. I think I've finally come to terms with the fact that these boots and I are not meant to be. I'll probably be consigning them so that someone with skinnier calves can enjoy them. Makes me sad as hell though. *weeps*

Glad to be back!

Totally Tulle-ular

This morning when I got dressed I put on an outfit that was almost completely black. Ten minutes later, I was wearing this.

Sweater: Club Monaco (worn a lot)
Top: Anthropologie (last worn here)
Skirt: ModCloth
Shoes: Nine West (last worn here)

Lacy, tulley, kinda springy.

I decided to wear this because I wanted to wear these shoes. Such pretty shooooes. Plus I was tired of dark colours.

The top and skirt don't exactly match but close enough.

At lunch today I went out to some of my favourite consignment stores. I found a great vintage red slip and a pair of Burberry pants! Whooot!

I felt very pretty in this outfit today. Ethereal. Floaty.

Words to live by.

Blue Birds

Sorry about the no post yesterday. I forgot my camera and the photos I took at home were crap so I took the night off.

Today I wore this dress to match my shoooooooooes of happiness and joy.

Scarf: Alexander McQueen (last worn here)
Dress: Shabby Apple (last worn here)
Belt: Noujica from The Workshop in Ottawa (last worn here)
Skirt: Mexx (last worn here)
Shoes: Miss L Fire (via Modcloth)

Last time I wore this dress, I also wore this scarf. Seems like a logical pairing.

The last time I wore this skirt I wore it over another skirt. Nice to know it works as well under other things too.

I was being watched while taking my photos hence the stupid goofy look on my face.

And here I'm apparently looking to heaven for guidance.

This dress is made of out rather thick cotton so I'm not a huge fan of it but it matches the shoes so perfectly.

Cutest shoes ever? Probably! With little birds and flowers on them. Adorable!

My shoe enabler friend sent me a photo of these. Now they are on my feet. ENABLER!

Oh. This happened in my building today. GHA! Christmas is my least favourite holiday.

...and with that, Megan left the building.

But right now, I'm gonna keep my pants on

Remembrance Day is a holiday in Nova Scotia so I got today off since I'm a government worker.  I slept in until 11:00, went out for breakfast with myself, met some friends for tea at a coffee shop and now I'm home watching last night's Boardwalk Empire.

Here's another pair of pants that I have shrunk into.

Sweater: Grace (from Filene's basement in DC)
Pants: RW&Co
Socks: Sock Dreams
Shoes: Fluevog Presence | Impulse (last worn here)

I'm a fan of cropped pants. Mostly because I'm usually wearing socks that deserve to be shown off.

Today is unseasonably warm. I went out without a coat and was more than warm enough. I'm pretty convinced that global climate change is a reality. Poor polar bears.

Back to work tomorrow. :(

Mayhaps you desire to - SQUIRREL!

Every time I wear this cardigan I think of the movie UP! and the dog Dug and the other SQUIRREL scenes.

Hey, I know a joke! A squirrel walks up to a tree and says, "I forgot to store acorns for the winter and now I am dead." Ha! It is funny because the squirrel gets dead.

Good movie, you should see if if you haven't already.

Cardigan: anthropologie (last worn here. I notice I also linked to a scene from UP! in that post - I'm getting repetitive!)
Dress: from China (gift)
Leggings: Joe Fresh
Boots: Bought in Las Vegas (last worn here)

I've never worn this dress on the blog but I wear it quite often on casual days like today. I got up early (well, early for me on a Sunday) and took myself out for breakfast. Then I had to go to the drug store to buy CAT TREATS. ERMAGHERD we had run out!

Now I am lying prone on my couch blogging, watching TV on my DVR (Chicago Fire which isn't very good), and probably planning a nap.

Here's a shot of the back of the dress. You can tell that the sleeves are jersey and the rest is just regular cotton.

There's weird design elements on it like those buttons at the bottom. It does have pockets though so I love it.

I have no idea what those words on the back say since they are fuzzy and difficult to read.

And today is Remembrance Day in Canada. I have friends who have military spouses so I am thinking of them today as well as those no longer with us.

Scallops, stripes, crosses

Quick post today because I'm heading out to play games with some women I met on Twitter.

You can tell by the look on my face that I wasn't overly thrilled with this outfit. It looks alright, even pretty nice, but even with my recent weight loss this skirt is still too tight.

Top: Dynamite (last worn here)
T-shirt: ?
Skirt: Modcloth (last worn here)
Tights: Wolford
Shoes: Messeca (last worn here)

I've actually worn these shoes quite a bit more than you see on the blog. I guess they are my go-to-off-blog shoes.

I was also uncomfortable about how my t-shirt was lying underneath the lace top. I kept pulling at it all day. I kind of felt sausage like.

I have to say that everything people have said about Wolford hosiery. They are awesome. Much nicer than your regular drug store hose.

Ok, gotta scoot!

Gingham style*

(A few people asked me about the comment I made on yesterday's post about "my list of purchases". When you buy stuff on Etsy, it records it in your "Purchases" so I can see everything I've ever bought on that site. I don't record all my purchases in a spreadsheet.)

Here's a dress that I found in my "off season" closet when I was swapping out my spring clothes for my winter things. It's another Etsy purchase (October 2008).

The top of the dress is jersey fabric but the skirt is a weird microfibre/faux suede fabric that picks up cat hair like crazy.

The accents are a red/white gingham.

Dress: Etsy store idea2lifestyle
Fishnets: Sock it to Ya (local store)
Shoes: Cydwoq (from San Francisco)

One thing I find confusing about this dress is I don't know what is the front or the back. Nor do I know if it matters. This morning I put it on both ways and this way seemed the best.

The side of the skirt has a cord in it so you can gather it up a bit to show the underskirt. Sassy!

What else is sassy? Fishnets with red seams! Work appropriate? Sure! Why the heck not.

I like how the fishnets and the gingham squares complement each other.

* apologies to PSY

Blue Sheep

According to my list of purchases, I bought this dress off of Etsy in June 2008. It was too tight in the hips so I had never worn it - until today.

I jokingly said I was wearing blue to commemorate the win of Barack Obama. I find it strange that blue is the colour of the Democrats in the US, which are the more "liberal" of the parties when blue = conservative in Canada and the UK. So very confusing!

Dress: Etsy
Blouse: Dept (last worn here)
Boots: Fluevog Presence Intuit (last worn here)

The print on this dress is trees and sheep. Cute. It's not immediately noticeable unless you come up right close at which point I'll either say "they are sheep" or slap you. ;)

I wasn't sure about the blue tights but I think they're ok. It's just a lot of blue.

YAY for being able to wear clothes you've had for 4 years!

Tart-an legs

I have put this dress into my "give away" bag too many times to count but I always have sober second thought.

Cardigan: Pretty Things Boutique
Dress: Anthropologie (last worn here)
Tights: Hue
Shoes: Franco Sarto (last worn here)

The dress is wool and pretty nondescript other than the subtle detail in the bodice and the bow. I'll not make the mistake of trying to get rid of it again.

I think I was uncomfortable with the length but now that I've embraced the shorter dress I'm ok with it.

Plus these tights provide a lot of cover.

You can see the detail a little better here. It has a little bit of a scoop above the bow and some gathers coming down from the waist.

The back has buttons. Buttony!

When I was leaving work and man taped me on the shoulder (I was wearing headphones) and asked me where I got my tights. When I told him (Sock it to Ya, a local store) he said "I know what I'm getting my wife for christmas!" I hope he gets her something else too.

Here's my accessories. Necklaces with birds and two pins. I support Obama, tea, and Jean-Luc Picard.

A demain!

Drawing crazy patterns on your sheets.

I forgot to bring my camera to work today so I had to take these in my living room. It's completely dark here at 6pm now so the quality isn't very good. But you get the idea.

I'm wearing a lot of patterns today. Striped shoes, floral skirt, the hosiery has an argyle pattern, and my top has skeletons and moths printed on it. The cardigan is just a black cardigan but it is cable knit.

Cardigan: Part Two (from a local store)
Top: Smoking Lily (last worn here)
Skirt: Desigual (last worn here)
Shoes: Poetic License (last worn here)

(you can see Dougal peeking out under my skirt. So many inappropriate jokes could be made here.)

Here's Merlin. He hates being picked up. Hates it so much. Poor thing.  He loves me though. He likes to sit on my lap at night while I'm watching TV, especially when it turns cold, which it's doing now.

Tomorrow I should be back taking my photos in front of the grey door.

Birds, Buttons, Stripes and Pants

Yes, I'm wearing PANTS again. Crazy! It's like I'm a whole other person.

I kind of am because these pants actually fit again. Last time I wore them I couldn't do up the top button and I felt like a sausage.

Blouse: Papillion (last worn here)
Belt: Jacob
Pants: Trapper Jane (last worn here)
Boots: Miss L Fire (last worn here)

The weather here has been unseasonably warm. Like 15C warm rather than the usual 0-3C. Still cool enough though to haul out the buttony boots.

With secret striped socks that you can't see when I'm not hitching up the leg of my trousers.

Or hitching them both up. The first photo was more revealing than I would like for this G rated blog so I had to hold my blouse for a second shot.

I'm going out tonight for dinner and then to see a concert of Old Man Luedeke. Good way to start the weekend.

I hope everyone had a good Friday.

Post Halloween skulls

November 1st. How did that happen. And this weekend we change the clocks so I'll be coming home from work in the dark. Such a depressing time of the year, especially for those of us with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). What's a good remedy? Fabulousness!

Cardigan: Knit by ME!
Dress: Dorothy Parker (last worn here)
Shoes: J. Crew

I knit this sweater a few years ago. The yarn is black but with pink and orange flecks in it. It's quite pretty ackshully.

Short dress! I thought I'd be uncomfortable wearing this with just tights rather than leggings like last time, but I didn't.

I really only wore this so I could wear these shoes. From J. Crew! J. Crew! It's not a store that I would normally shop at but I saw these shoes and did a double take.

GHA!  They're pinkish but I don't care! They were too gorgeous to get hung up about a silly thing like the colour.

They were way to expensive but I was told they were 30% off so I decided to splurge. And at the cash I found out that they were on sale on the website so I got that discount and an additional 30%! I should have bought 2 pairs.

They are surprisingly comfortable too.

And without the cardigan.

Oh, and I followed up with Fluevog about the boots I wore on Tuesday. They said they looked like the Swordfish Granny Boot. They also added this:  "They seem quite legit, with the exception of the brown plaid sides. We can't find any record of a boot with sides like that. It's possible they were a sample, or a very small run that we didn't take pictures of. Either way, they are awesome!"

Whoot! Score!
