Toronto. I am in you.

Title stolen from Wil Wheaton who says that on twitter whenever he's traveling to new cities. But it's true, I am in Toronto. :) I arrived yesterday afternoon and I haven't really stopped smiling since.

I'm temporarily staying in a small flat that I found on airBNB.com. I'm starting looking for a place with a vengeance but I'm not expecting it to be easy.

Today I just walked around down Queen St., up University Ave and then down Dundas, kind of in a circle.

Here's what I was wearing.

Dress: Smoking Lily (last worn here)
Tights: ? (they are way to long so I'm throwing them away)
Shoes: Fluevog Presence | Impel (last worn here)

I wore the BIG SKULL cardigan as well.

I brought a lot of Smoking Lily clothes because they are completely washable and don't really wrinkle. You'll be seeing these pieces a lot until I get a permanent place and have my stuff delivered from Halifax.

So here's some of the things I saw today.

First thing I went to breakfast. I had The Standard, not the Disco Breakfast. I'm not sure what makes it Disco - maybe I should ask.

Walking down Queen Street I saw this sign at a Poutinerie. OM NOM NOM indeed.

I saw this adorable display in the window of The Knit Cafe. It's a knit cat playing with pompoms. Adorable! I didn't bring any knitting so maybe I should go there and get some yarn for a small project.

I went to the new Gravity Pope store and saw this special edition colour of the Fluevog Queen Transcendent | Nefertiti. I like this colour much better than the black or pink at the Fluevog store. Might have to go back....

Guess where I went next? Yup, less than 24 hours in the city and I was at Fluevog.

Terrible photo but I left with the Swordfish Postmodern Slushy (I keep calling them "Squishy"). I've been lusting over them for a few months now so it was fate.

I'm usually a 7 1/2 in Fluevogs but in these I got the 6! They fit very big. There's your tip of the day. Size down!

After going to Fluevog I walked to where I'll be working and then walked to where I'm living. It's about a 30 minute walk. Not too bad.

Walking back to my apartment, I walked past the Art Gallery of Ontario. This was on the window. I'll take it as a sign. :)

After getting back to my place I went out to a Vietnamese restaurant recommended to me. Had a yummy vermicelli bowl.

I'll have to find a grocery store soon or I'll be broke.

When walking back from the restaurant I saw this sign outside a salon. I really love grumpy cat too!

Better run. I'm going to grab a bite to eat and then I'm having a drink with someone I used to work with in Halifax who moved here about 18 months ago. I'm a social butterfly!

Free sweater on the bus

Today was my last day of work. Nine years at the same job, nine years working with a bunch of the same people. It's been a very emotional day capping off a very emotional week. So draining.

You're probably be seeing a lot of this cardigan and dress since both will be accompanying me to Toronto. Most of my clothes have been packed for storage so I'm already sort of living out of a suitcase.

Cardigan: Pretty Things Boutique
Dress: Emily Ryan Ballerina Cut-out dress (last worn here)
Tights: ?
Shoes: Messeca (last worn here)

I was starting to wear through the soles of these shoes so I had the cobbler put rubber soles on them. So I've lengthened their lifespan and they are also much less slippery.

Today was my last trip to work on #BusNo5. One of the people that I sit with, knowing my love of skulls, brought me this cardigan. She had ordered something from ModCloth and they sent her this in error. Rather than having her return it they said she could keep it. She's a public librarian so she didn't think this would fly in her workplace so she gave it to meeeeeeee!  Free Cardigan! Free SKULLS!

HUGE SKULL on the back! Such generous people here. I bet no one on the subway in Toronto would give me a free cardigan.

Prove me wrong Toronto! Prove me WRONG!

Skeletal anatomy

If you are a medical student, or someone studying human bone structure, then you need to get this dress. It is a wearable cheat sheet!

Dress: Rad to the Bone dress from ModCloth
Blouse: Dept (last worn here)
Shoes: Fluevog Wonders | Ayers (last worn here)

Yes, I wore this to work today. What are they going to do, fire me? ;)

The most awesomest thing about it? It glows in the dark. I tried to get a picture but it didn't work with either my camera or my iPhone. If you go to the ModCloth page they have a photo of it.

Today was my penultimate day at work and I was taken out for lunch. It was sad. Then my day got extremely shitty and I left work early. Would it be wrong for me to go to bed at 6pm?

Another day over

Two more work days to go. Tonight I have some friends over for pizza and to help me do some packing. I'm grateful for their help! Most of my clothes won't be packed until Monday when the movers bring me wardrobe boxes but I still have to get stuff organized so the movers can just grab stuff and throw it in the truck.

Last night it snowed again. 10 cms. UGH. So much for spring. *sigh*

The snow made me want to dress comfortably.

Dress: anthropologie (last worn here)
Belt: anthropologie
Shoes: Miss L Fire (last worn here)

Gotta run and get the doorbell. My pizza's here!

Three days

Three more days. I have so much to do my head is spinning and as you can guess nothing every goes smoothly.

I got my haircut after work. My last with my super duper fabulous stylist who I am going to miss terribly. *sniff* You'll see it in tomorrow's photos.

Shirt: Spaksmannsspjarir in Reykjavik (last worn here)
Dress: Desigual (last worn here - over a year ago!)
Tights: Hue
Shoes: Fly London (last worn here)

Polka dotty! Pattern overload!

I think I'm going to have to include this dress in my upcoming "capsule wardrobe". I need to wear it more than once a year. GHA!  And spring is coming though we're supposed to get 15cm of snow tonight so who knows.

Who can't love a dress with a parrot on the bum. I know Sheila does. She last wore her Parrot dress on Megan Mae's birthday. It's a total party dress.

Gotta eat and pack. Thank goodness for good music to keep me moving.

Blue fly

Last night my friend came over and helped me pack up the items from my kitchen that I'll be moving. We finished in 1 hour. o_O  She used to move a lot in her life so she apparently retained the skills of efficient packing. We used ever inch of space in the boxes. She's offered to help me as much as she can. I wonder what she can do with my shoes.

Cardigan: Club Monaco (last worn here)
Top: Anthropologie (also last worn in the above link)
Skirt: Smoking Lily (last worn here)
Boots: from Las Vegas (last worn here)

I thought I had lost this blouse. I haven't seen it since I was in Ottawa in November or December. I found it yesterday when I was going through my clothes. YAY!

These tights look blue in this photo but they are really a bright teal. I thought they gave this outfit a bit more interest than wearing grey or black.

I'm off work on Monday so only 4 more days of photos in front of these doors!

And your telephone's been ringing while you're dancing in the rain

Today I went out for lunch with two women with whom I work. Walking through the mall, I was definitely the most colourful person in this bright orange dress. I'm trying very hard to believe spring is coming.

I bought this strapless dress from Anthropologie.com a few months ago, in the dead of winter. I've wanted to wear it so I took a cue from Sheila and wore a blouse underneath

Blouse: Vero Moda (last worn here)
Dress: Anthropologie.com
Shoes: Desigual (last worn here)

I tried on 4 pairs of shoes this morning before deciding to wear these ones. Good choice?

The dress came with a blue tie for the waist so blue shoes would also be a good choice.

I think this actually works! I'd wear this again. Not sure when since most of my wardrobe is going into storage until I find a place to live in Toronto. How will I survive living out of two suitcases for 4-6 weeks?

I bought this pin from Vitamin G before I bought the dress. It was kismet!

Boring hounds tooth

A delayed post of the March 13th outfit. I didn't get this uploaded until now because yesterday after work I was meeting with a moving company and then after that I went out for dinner. I have a feeling I'll be having a lot of meals with friends over the next week.

Tonight I'm meeting with my lawyer and then spending the evening with a friend packing stuff. Shit just got real, yo.

After all my bravado of "going to pull out all the stops and wear all my craziest clothes" this outfit is BORING. I got this dress in Reykjavik but it really does nothing for me. Why can't I let it go? Because it's red.

Jacket: Origin Unknown
Dress: from Reykjavik (last worn here)
Shirt: from Dynamite (last worn here)
Tights: Anna Sui from Simon in Montreal
Shoes: Steve Madden (last worn here)

I never wear jackets. I've had this for a few years and have worn it probably once. I love hounds tooth. Maybe I thought that would make we wear it.

I'm keeping it though since it has very useful pockets. I'll try to wear it more often!

The only things interesting about this outfit are the tights and shoes.

I got the tights when I went to see Duran Duran in Montreal in October 2011. This is the first time I've put them on. Odd.

I love the print of furniture but I've been at a loss on how to style them.

And finally, I wish I'd worn heels with this outfit but I went with my skull flats.

BORING!

Colour Explosion

Moving plans are coming along. Today I booked a temporary accommodations through AirBNB, I'm meeting with a moving company tomorrow, I've made lists. Tonight I have to try and identify what I'm going to be moving other than my clothes and shoes that is. I'm running on caffeine, adrenaline, and panic.

I have to say though that Twitter has been very very helpful.

I'm going to try and pull out all the stops the next two weeks and go crazy with my outfits or wear things that I haven't worn in a while. Maybe this will help me decide what to pack since I won't be able to take all my clothes when I move at first.

Scarf: Aldo
Sweater: Knit by Me (last worn here)
Dress: Desigual (last worn here)
Tights: Anna Sui (last worn here)
Shoes: Fluevog Get Up! | Eureka (last worn here)

I haven't worn these shoes in over a year.  Kinda of a shame really. They're cute, comfortable, and mary-janey. Must put them into the rotation more frequently.

I had put this dress with my summer clothes but dug it out to wear today. Luckily it's warmed up enough so that I wasn't freezing in this little cotton dress.

I bought this on a whim at Aldo when I bought the red studded flats. It was up by the cash register so it was a good "suggestive sell" on their part. Birds!

This scarf is almost as big as my Alexander McQueen scarf.

Better go finish dinner and start packing.

Megan 2.0

Today I gave two weeks notice at my job. In 3 weeks I start a new job, in a new city, in a new province. Well, old province. I'm moving to Toronto. I'm totally FREAKING OUT! I have a job but no where to live. I'm hoping that resolves itself soon. GHA!

Another thing....Toronto....Fluevog....DANGER DANGER!

So there will only be 8-9 more photos in front of this grey door.

Dress: Papillion (last worn here)
Shoes: Pour La Victoire

New heels. Pretty, pretty, pretty.

And I didn't know they would match this dress quite so perfectly.

I'm excited about moving. I'm sort of rebooting my life at 41. Megan 2.0 shall commence in April. Who knows what exciting things await me in Toronto.

Look! I removed the stickers from the bottom of the shoes. Do you ever see people on the street and notice that they have a big sticker from Winners on the bottom of their shoe?  No? Just me?

Pretty, pretty, pretty!

Thank you Xie-Xie

I have a lot going on in my life right now. Some big changes that are happening very quickly. Some exciting, some confusing, some hard to take, but all very scary. I don't mean to vague-blog but as things coalesce I'll be more forthcoming. I'm just trying to explain my lack of substantive dialogue here today.

Jacket: Filene's Basement in DC
T-shirt: ?
Skirt: Desigual (last worn here)
Boots: Fluevog Wherever | Xie-Xie (last worn here)

So glad tomorrow is Friday.

I might be as confused as hell but I'm trying to face the days bravely and looking cute as hell.

Spring ahead

I'm not a fan of Daylight Saving Time. I think it's an outmoded model and we should abandon it. I also hate that people call it Daylight SavingS Time (pet peeve). Drives me buggy!

So since we're going to be losing an hour of our lives on Sunday morning, and I think the concept of artificially changing time is stupid, I think my cuckoo clock dress is appropriate. (Then again time itself is subjective so maybe it shouldn't matter what's on the clock. If you want to read a good book about time I recommend Einstein's Dreams by Alan Lightman.)

Cardigan: Pretty Things Boutique (worn multiple times)
Dress: Smoking Lily (last worn here)
Shoes: Fly London

At first this morning I put on a purple cardigan but I thought red might be an interesting choice. And I got to wear my new red shoes.

I like them a lot but I think that the wedge between the heel and the ball of the shoe appears to be an after thought. It doesn't bug me enough that I didn't buy them though.

What do you think of daylight saving time? Does it bother you enough to want to move to Saskatchewan or Indiana or another place where there's no time change?

The way the blue could pull me in

Blue is a fairly recent addition to my wardrobe. I don't remember wearing a lot of blue in my younger days and then I went through the "I only feel comfortable when I'm wearing black" phase (yes, I do remember saying that....out loud).

Now I find I'm wearing blue quite frequently. Today I may have over done the blue palette. Or is that possible?

Dress: Individual for iclothing co (last worn here)
Underskirt: Noa Noa (last worn here)
Shoes: Fluevog Prepares | Guide (last worn here)

Have I really not worn these shoes in 7 months? That's kinda crazy! They really are a perfect match to this dress.

I was wearing these bracelets. I bought the same ones for my coworker as part of her birthday present. Now we're like Joey and Chandler - BRACELET BUDDIES!

These are nicer than

Luckily I didn't buy them from the Liberace House of Crap.

I really am over due for a haircut. My stylist is in Costa Rica so I'm going to have to wait a while longer. Ugh!

Spatty

Sorry about the lengthy disappearance. I went home to go to my mother's 70th birthday party. WHOOO!

I think it's pretty well documented that I have a love of buttony, spatty, boots. I happen to own a few pairs.

So when I came across this pair of Fluevog booties that are no longer available, in my size, it made sense that I would want to add them to my collection. What can I say? I'm greedy.

Top: Anthropologie (last worn here)
Skirt: Krista Larsen (last worn here)
Boots: Fluevog Bellevues | Ida Clark

These boots are from Fluevog's vegan collection. They are canvas and fabric. I think I'm going to get some clear nail polish to keep the fabric near the zipper from fraying.

I like how the fabric looks like mattress ticking or seersucker.  It gives them kind of a old world feel.

I wore another pin that I got from Vitamin G on etsy. Maybe not entirely work appropriate but I wasn't meeting with anyone from the public or senior management today. The woman who owns the coffee shop in my building said "She looks like you!"  Ha!  I wish.

Lastly, I wore my new mouse ring. So sweet and it matches my tattoo.

I'm glad to be back! I'll be here all week.
