Coat check girl up in Happyland

Good morning blogland. Happy Friday! I was too tired to blog this last night so here's a quicky.

Lacy shirt: Dynamite (last worn here)
Dress: Lilikoi from Chartreuse Style (last worn here)
Boots: Fluevog Bellevues | Libby Smith (last worn here)

Not sure why my foot is up in the air. Maybe I'm feeling kicky.

I'm always challenged to find something to wear underneath this dress because it's so low cut in the front and back. This shirt kinda works because of the grey on the boots.

There's a zipper down the back. Puts me in mind of the episode of M*A*S*H where Hawkeye is telling BJ one of his fantasies.

B.J.: Okay, it's your turn. Tell me a fantasy.
Hawkeye: Picture, if you will, a crisp winter afternoon. You by a crackling fire in a smoking jacket.
B.J.: Mmm. What color?
Hawkeye: Red... with blue satin lapels. And a zipper down the back.
B.J.: What for?
Hawkeye: You'll see. There's a light tapping at the door. "Who's there?" you say, checking your zipper. You saunter to the door, straightening your ascot... and casually slide back the bolt.
B.J.: Come on! Who is it?
Hawkeye: Lana Turner.
B.J.: Wearing?
Hawkeye: An angora sweater... with a zipper down the back.
B.J.: What for?
Hawkeye: You'll see.
B.J.: Go on.
Hawkeye: She throws her arms around you. But you push her away!
B.J.: I push her away? For what?
Hawkeye: Your smoking jacket is covered with angora lint. In a fit of pique, she leaves.
B.J.: That's it? The end?
Hawkeye: That's it.
B.J.: But what about the zippers down the back?
Hawkeye: They didn't catch on.
B.J.: Oh, I don't believe it! I had Lana Turner in a fantasy with a sweater with a zipper down the back and I let her get away?
Hawkeye: You always were short on zip.
B.J.: [whines]

Speaking of Jackets, I found this coat in a vintage store on Ossington St.

It was only $35.00! A bargain! Maybe it was so inexpensive because the sleeves are so short.

The brand inside is Brown's Apparel, Huntington, West Virginia.

I feel very conspicuous in this coat because most other Torontonians are wearing black or grey outerwear. Good thing I'm not too concerned about blending in.

It's warm. Not -40C warm but warm enough for a reasonable winter day.

And the back is pretty nice too.

Back to work.

Always believe in, because you are Gold

Title is from Spandau Ballet's "other" song, Gold.

Because today I was wearing these.

Fluevog Queen of the Skies | Midas

Full disclosure - these are sitting down shoes. Whenever I had to walk around I took them off. But they are so pretty!

They go pretty well with this dress from Anthropologie (last worn here).

Wow. Looking back through posts and I didn't realize how long my hair was just a few months ago. I really liked it.

Hopefully I can keep up with this blogging again!

Back in Black

Hello! I'm sitting on my couch and for the first time Robin Hood (aka Fuzzy Buddy) is actually cuddled up against my leg. I don't think I can move for the rest of the evening. So I thought "hey! you should blog".

December 13

Here's the last picture I took in 2013, right after I had my hair lightened and some red added back in.

Necklace: from Coal Miner's Daughter
Dress: Meg
Tights: Wolford
Shoes: Fluevog Presence | Impulse (last worn a year ago)

I've been living in this dress. It's wool and has pockets and some subtle gathering in the bodice. I also tracked down two more pairs of these discontinued Wolford ballet tights because I think they are just the coolest ever. A lot of people think that the stripes are straps from my shoes.

January 14

Leap forward a month and I'm still in black.

Dress: Girl Friday
Tights: Peek Brooklyn
Shoes: Zara

I've not really been a fan of wrap dresses but this one is made of heavy jersey so it hangs nicely.

These pointy shoes are the shoes of my 1980s teenage dreams. Strappy! Buckle-y! Pointy!

My tights have some metallic details on the bottom. Not really all that noticeable.

In other news, I've joined a gym because I have gained a bit of weight back. Darn beer! Maybe that's why I'm back in black clothes?

2014

Thought I should revive the blog. I even took an outfit post on Monday (but forgot to process it) - doh!

2013 was a year of big changes for me and I thought it would be interesting to account for them here and see visually everything that happened.

  1. In February I was offered a job in Ontario.
  2. In March I moved to Toronto
  3. In April I got an apartment in an area where I wanted to live.
  4. In May I turned 42! The meaning of life, the universe, and everything! and I met John Fluevog!
  5. In July I hosted the Travelling Yellow Skirt on its Freakshow around the planet and experienced my first Toronto Pride day.
  6. In September I got to see Depeche Mode in concert with my sister which was unexpectedly moving as well as awesome. I also filed for divorce.
  7. September also brought my parents to the city while my father had surgery. My mother moved in with me which was interesting.
  8. I also got to see one of my favourite bands, White Lies, in concert in September and they are coming back again in February.
  9. On November 12 my divorce was finalized and I went out for dinner with friends to "celebrate/commiserate".

Dirty Martini. Sequin dress. Fresh manicure!

Enough of the list. Here's a "bathroom selfie" that posted on my instagram feed which I have been updating much more frequently than this blog.

For Xmas my parents bought me a table for my apartment. I'm almost a real adult again!

I found the chairs on the sidewalk - Free Chairs!

I really want to get back to blogging. I've missed the interaction with people in this medium. I'm going to try very hard!
